EFRIM MANUEL MENUCK
EFRIM MANUEL MENUCK
The much-anticipated 2nd solo album by the founder of Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Thee Silver Mt. Zion.

Efrim Manuel Menuck returns with his second album Pissing Stars, the brilliantly intense follow-up to his 2011 solo debut Plays “High Gospel” (CST078) and the first new material with Menuck as central songwriter and vocalist since 2014’s acclaimed Fuck Off Get Free We Pour Light On Everything (CST099) from his chamber-punk-rock band Thee Silver Mt. Zion.

The legendary Montréal-based musician has much-deserved cult status among fans of political punk, post-rock and avant-noise songcraft alike. Menuck celebrates 25 years of unflinching and uncompromising sonic output with Pissing Stars, wherein he launches acerbic darts, impassioned salvos and fragile flowers into gusts of noise-battered song built around pulsing maximalist electronics and drone, composed on modular synthesizer and guitar, shot through with alternately plaintive, chilling, often processed vocals. Pissing Stars is Menuck at his most vulnerable and his most adventurous – with a timely narrative framework that only he could conjure:

PISSING STARS is inspired by the brief romance of American television presenter MARY HART and MOHAMMED KHASHOGGI, the son of a saudi arms dealer.
Kevin Doria (of Growing)
Kevin Doria (of Growing)
'Growing is a drone music/ambient music/noise music band formed in Olympia, Washington, and currently based in Brooklyn, New York. The group was founded in 2001 by Kevin Doria (electric bass guitar), Joe Denardo (electric guitar), and Zack Carlson (drums). Carlson left following their first album, and the band continued as a duo until 2009, when they recruited Sadie Laska (samplers, microphone) to form a new trio. The group's music has gradually progressed from slow, instrumental drone pieces through works in noise and ambient music toward more propulsive, rhythm driven music.'
Earth Jerks
Earth Jerks
"Aptly described on his soundcloud as ‘West Coast Flower Violence’, Earth Jerks is the solo project of San Franciscan Chris Dixon, formerly drummer for the now defunct Death Sentence: PANDA! Armed only with a keyboard and a few pedals, Earth Jerks brings to mind the likes of Vibracathedral Orchestra’s Bridget Hayden and Ashtray Navigations’ Phil Todd in their search for enlightenment via dense and low fidelity amplified noise. The two short and two long pieces here range from brutal ambience to ambient brutalism, with ‘Larger Than Life, The Living Flame’ busting out its drones at levels of gain too high for sleeping, but nonetheless hypnotising us over some 11 triumphant minutes, and ‘I've Got Something Man, That Your Fucking Money Cannot Buy’ spending its twelve-and-a-half minute playtime in a slightly less fuzzed out, dreamier place. The weird thing about Earth Jerks is how hard these drones actually rock. The keyboards-and-pedal epic retains its place as amongst the ultimate music to turn on, tune in and drop out to." --The Quietus
